Our Heroes

Stephen Caldwell works as a Purchasing Manager for a family run industrial packaging supplies company in Govan, Glasgow and commuted daily from Kingskettle in Fife until lock-down. This is his poem.

We love the NHS and the service that they bring

But there’s others working just as hard so praises we must sing

The care workers are grafting hard, looking after folk

Making sure that things are fine, their tasks are no a joke

The Council Lads are walking round and emptying our bins

Wi cheery waves and skipping steps and cheesy, happy grins.

There’s drivers out delivering our much required stuff

There’s other front-line workers, who’s work life’s are still rough

Spare a thought for shopping staff who’re putting up wi lip

From arseholes who can’t understand, or cannot get a grip

Come on folks, it’s happening, we’re all in this together

We’re all stuck into lock down, no matter what the weather

Let’s sit it out, and please be nice and help out friends in need

But don’t let thoughts slip very far from others selling greed

The bastards who hiked prices up to try and earn a buck

Avoid their shops, miss them out, tell them to get to fuck.

Stay Safe!
